Helicopter emergency landing causes wide-spread power outage

All of the Sequachee Valley Electric customers served by the Pikeville substation found themselves without power for about 45 minutes, Friday, September 18 when a US Marine Corp CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing near Rock Island State Park and the White, Warren and Van Buren county line.

The landing cut several TVA transmissions lines, some of which feed power to the Pikeville SVEC substation. TVA was able to reroute power from Watts Bar fairly quickly and service was restored in less than an hour.

No one was injured in the incident.
