SVEC promotes the spirit of giving this Christmas Season

Thanksgiving is here and the Christmas season is following close behind. We here in the Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative service area have a lot to give thanks for, however there are those who are struggling to make ends meet during this downturn in the economy.

We at SVEC are again sponsoring our annual food drive in each of our local offices. We are asking our members to bring in at least 6 cans of food or other non-perishable food items to be donated to the local food banks. In return we will reward those generous members with an SVEC 70th Anniversary 6-inch Lodge cast iron skillet.

We are also asking our members to remember the children in our service area who may not be receiving any gifts under their tree this year by bringing in a new un-wrapped toy for the local Sheriff’s Toy Drive in Marion and Bledsoe Counties and the Lion’s Club Christmas Basket Toy and Food Drive in Sequatchie County . Our Grundy County Office will again have a Angel Tree with the names of local Head Start children whose families could use some help making Christmas special for their children this year.

As you give thanks for all that you have this Thanksgiving, please take time to stop by your local SVEC office and share the joy of the Christmas season with those less fortunate. The toys need to be brought in for the toy drives by December 1. The Angel Tree Gifts in Grundy County need to be brought in by December 15. So while you are out there shopping for bargains on “Black Friday,” pick up a few extra toys to share.

While you are in your local office ask about SVEC and TVA’s energy efficiency programs that can help make your home more comfortable and energy efficient this winter. With the money you can save on your energy bills you will have more to enjoy and to share with others.

Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas from your friends and neighbors at SVEC!
