SVEC Announces Winner of District 1 Director Election

Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) recently held the district Board of Directors election for District 1 (southern parts of Marion County including South Pittsburg , New Hope , Richard City and Orme.). Bob Sherrill, won the election over incumbent, Randall Vinson with a vote of 158 to 85. Sherrill will begin his four-year term with the board of directors meeting to be held following the 2009 SVEC Annual Meeting of the Membership, November 12, at the Bledsoe County High School in Pikeville.

SVEC President/CEO Bob Matheny stated, “We want to welcome Mr. Sherrill to the board.  We know that his leadership skills and knowledge of, and involvement in, the community will be an asset to the board. We also want to thank Randall Vinson for over seven years of dedicated service to the people of not only his district, but of the entire SVEC service area.”

SVEC has electric revenues of about $75 to $80 million. Currently approximately 80 percent of the revenue goes directly to TVA. With TVA facing increasing costs and major changes in their rate structure, SVEC faces significant challenges in continuing to serve our member/customers with quality, reliable electric service at a reasonable cost.

SVEC, along with TVA, will be addressing some of these challenges with a strong emphasis on energy conservation and efficiency designed to help our members save energy and therefore, money while making their homes more comfortable.

Mr. Sherrill will be working on these and other issues with 10 other members of the board from across the SVEC service areas. Each board member brings to the table years of experience in a wide variety of business and leadership roles. Because of the complexity of the issues, each board member must complete specialized training from the national and statewide electric cooperative organizations to keep them informed of unique issues of the electric utility industry in a rural community.

“I look forward to working with Mr. Sherrill as the SVEC board addresses the many energy related issues that will be coming before them in the days ahead,” Matheny concluded.

The District 10 seat was also up for re-election, in Bledsoe County , however, incumbent, Johnny Nale was unopposed and no election was held.
